The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) has approved a USPS rate increase effective January 22, 2017 for Market-Dominant products which include First Class Mail, Standard Mail, Periodicals and Package Services. The overall increase, which is capped by CPI, is 0.778%.
Following are some highlights:
- First Class forever stamp is increasing from 47 to 49 cents.
- 3-oz automation letters now cost the same as 1-oz automation letter to mail. This only applies to First Class automation letters.
- Standard Class mail can now weigh up to 3.5-oz and mail for the same rate (previous max weight was 3.3-oz).
- The 3-digit automation processing category is being eliminated. Pricing for this category has mirrored the AADC category for several years and the two categories are being merged together.
CMS is currently reviewing the impact of this rate change and will be in contact in the coming weeks to discuss how this impacts your account specifically. If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact your Customer Service Manager.
